Mexico En La Piel.

For her Sophomore Project in the Musical Theatre program at Texas State, Lu created an activist piece that addresses the experience of people of color as well as the struggles of immigrants pursuing the performing arts in the United States. This was one of twelve pieces created by her class to form their project called Perspectives, which aimed to express the importance and impact we can have on each other’s lives as diverse artists, based on unique and authentic experiences as individuals. Mexico En La Piel attempts to continue to raise awareness and promote education for a more equitable, inclusive, globalized art form that has the potential of giving voice to so many more artists than just in the American demographic. Lu’s experience immigrating has opened her eyes to the systematic obstacles placed in order for Musical Theatre to remain an elitist art form. Lu strives to be a pioneer to continue to take steps forward for an industry that is available to anyone, anywhere by continuing to promote education and raise funds for international scholarships for artists around the globe.

UN WOMEN

Because of her experience as a Mexican woman, Lu has devoted herself to the fight and movement for women’s rights in both Mexico and The United States. There exists a present ongoing danger to women in her country due to misogynistic government/belief system, organized crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, etc. making Mexico one of the most femicide countries in the world. Due to the ongoing dangers, and the way Lu and her loved ones at home have been impacted by them, she decided to join the United Nations Women as a student member during her years in high school, to further take action about the situation. As part of her journey with the UN, Lu has participated in mock and real conferences (ONU Mujeres), as well as helping Reinserta, a non-profit organization, to help convicted women through their safe reinsertion to society. Furthermore, Lu establsihed HeForShe at Texas State University during her college years, which is a feminist student organization created by the United Nations intended to unite us all, raise awareness, promote/provide education, and call for action to bring justice, safety, and equality to women across the globe.
